IGGY AZALEA: Her World

Toting chopped-and-screwed beats to match a swagger full of sass, Iggy Azalea is the next at bat for female emcees and buzzing right off your YouTube screen.

Words: Kortnee Leigh

It is no secret: Miss Iggy Azalea is certifiably bad. And she seldom hides it. Why should she, right? After being rejected by model management companies for being “too thick”, Iggy Pop embraced her sultry figure and her eclectic style after settling on this side of the pond, just a few years back. The Australian native named Iggy (born Amethyst in 1990) must have duped the system with that hourglass body of hers, because dropping out of high school never looked so good. STARK sheds light on the newly legal blonde bombshell and her debut effort Ignorant Art, which gives listeners a shot of her acquired taste, straight up.

Although only nine tracks, Ignorant Art is a decent effort. The overall direction of the project is a bit scattered, but the resounding “D.R.U.G.S” chant at the base of every track alerts you to her new movement. Opening the mixtape with a short, interlude-like comedic parody, Azalea’s hungry lyrics show her talent is no laughing matter on tracks like “Hello” and the Internet smash-hit, “My World”. Iggy also shares just what she likes on “Backseat” and tells you how to treat her right on crowd-favorite, “Pu$$y”. Closing out the collection with the fitting track “The Last Song”, Azalea slows down the tempo to show us her twist on the infamous “supa dupa flow”. As her first project, it is safe to say her buzz is fitting for an artist of her caliber— out there, but nothing really to break your neck about.

With a new mixtape due out Christmas time, Iggy says her collaboration with YG on “1990” will be fire. Let’s hope she can snowball into success and not only because her body is ice cold.
