AETHER: The Stylish Outdoorsmen

Want the “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” look? Get hip to Aether Apparel.

Words: Tai Lotson

Sleek, durable, functional and super cool, Aether Apparel is outerwear for the urban gentleman. Designed by Hollywood producers Jonah Smith and Palmer West, whose collaborative resume includes the druggie-filled drama Requiem for a Dream, Bill Maher’s 2008 documentary Religulous, and the A-list heavy (stars Helen Mirren, Robert Redford and Willem Dafoe) The Clearing; interestingly, Aether was created to fill a void in the marketplace (in the same way their films do) for fully-functional outerwear with a sleek modern design.

Often times outerwear that is performance driven lacks in style, while style driven outerwear lacks the durability for high level performance. Neither is acceptable to most outdoor enthusiasts, but thankfully there is no need to sacrifice technically advanced gear, warmth, protection, comfort or style, as West and Smith have truly hit the mark with Aether Apparel. Giving the consumer exactly what they want, Aether is an outstanding alternative that offers streamlined, authentic designs that are not too bulky or oversized (as is customary for most outerwear). It’s stylish and edgy, with just enough outdoorsmen panache. So after you’ve had a weekend on the slopes, you can just as easily walk the streets of Soho without switching your gear. (It’s no wonder why Aether Apparel was the clothing used in the latest installation of Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible franchise, Ghost Protocol.)

Just a few months ago, Aether launched its official mobile pop-up shop called the Aetherstream, designed by Paris-based industrial designer Thierry Gaugain (also a Philippe Starck cohort). The final Aether Apparel brand experience was found in the complete rehabilitation of a Pan America 34’ Airstream, ie. a 34-foot trailer made to be über cool and cozy, with the modern adventurer in mind.
