As if she could ever disappear from the scene without the world torn asunder, Paris-based artist Fafi breaks into 2012 with her first super graphic novel, The Carmine Vault, due out this April on Rizzoli.

In her usual pop-fantasy stylings, Fafi’s classic femme-fatales, the Fafinettes, lead the charge as the backstory of beloved Birtak is revealed. “Once a pirate floating away on the wild seas and oceans with his crew,” as Fafi once elaborated, the four-legged Birtak eventually found his way to shore, later studying classical dance at the Opera Garnier.

Enter The Carmine Vault, where Birtak and the Fafinettes engage in a colorful journey that banks on the surreal imaginings of the infamous, multi-disciplined Fafi, whom many have come to follow religiously from the pages of Vogue to the interiors of famed culture house Colette, to the streets of Tokyo and New York. Finally, Fafi fans have the book that they’ve been waiting for…

But will Birtak finally achieve his dream of becoming a ballerina in the Paris Opéra Ballet within the 96 pages it takes to complete the story? There’s only one way to tell; get the book, which is now available on Pre-order HERE.
