HONOR: Spring 2012 Collection

Words: Tatiana R. Johnson

Polka dots, lace and plaids were all the rave at the Spring/Summer 2012 Honor runway show during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. Lincoln Center’s Studio venue was packed with tres girlie styles on and off the runway, as fashionista friends of Honor designer Giovanna Randall including singer/songwriter and DJ Solange Knowles, actress Rose McGowan and chic television star Tracee Ellis Ross decorated the front row. Embroidered tulle dresses and small-waisted silhouettes resurrected our nostalgia, sending us back to tea parties a la the 1950s, while classic sheer polka dot tops rendered fun and flirtier moods.

Randall kept it simple and playful for the most part, using pastels, and black and white hues to dress up her collection (Think Canterbury eggs). While the hot pink pantsuit, which didn’t seem to fit the same criteria as some of the other Honor pieces, was a welcomed surprise. This season’s black and purple plaid blazer, however, was a bit of a downer, as it lowered the vivacity of ensembles that strutted the runway prior. (Sigh)

Overall, thumbs up is our rating of Honor’s Spring 2012 collection, which all in all, was a heartening blend of rich girly swank and a punch of spunk.
