SUPERGA: Classic Comeback

There’s always that classic shoe that never goes out of style and just like wine, gets better with time. Does the name Superga ring any bells?

Words: Tatiana R. Johnson

Italian shoe brand Superga has been around for a little more than 100 years and with the help of young designers and tastemakers, it’s making a huge comeback this fall. With simple design—a basic canvas tennis shoe with classic accents—they’re perfect for running around while you do your errands or to spruce up a casual, laid-back look as famous fans like actress and designer, Sienna Miller, and designer and socialite Alexa Chung (who has also recently become the new face for the brand) have already figured out.

Enter Designer Steve Madden, best known for his chic yet futuristic approach to his creative footwear, who has officially partnered with the brand to make Superga the it kicks to sport. He’s even enlisted the help of twin moguls and designers, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, who will serve as creative directors for the brand. (We hear that it was initially their idea to revitalize the brand for today’s market.) Indeed, the Olsen twins are prime fashionistas in their own right, but adding on to this announcement, the design collaboration will also feature a special partnership with their line, The Row and contemporary sportswear collection Elizabeth and James.

Stay on the look out. Prices range from $60-150 (USD) and will be sold in high end retailers and specialty boutiques very soon.
